ENG: Dutch designers Pierre Oskam and Max Latour have come up with a way to make cities more biodiverse, named Urban Reef. Their solution involves using natural materials to create structural ecosystems that can be integrated within the built environment like fountains, for example.
Opting for complex geometries 3D-printed using porous materials including ceramics and other composites made from coffee grounds and mycelium, moisture in the environment will be able to pass through and create the perfect environment for various fungi to grow.
At present, the team has developed two concept products as a result of their research, first in the form of the “Rain Reef” rain collector with an undulating shape that increases the contact area of the water and the potential hatching surface for vegetation. The second product is the “Zoo Reef”, which Urban Reef intends as a substitute for fountains in cities.
RO: Designerii olandezi Pierre Oskam și Max Latour au creat un proiect pentru a face orașele mai biodiverse, numit Urban Reef. Soluția lor implică utilizarea materialelor naturale pentru a crea ecosisteme structurale care pot fi integrate în mediul existent, cum ar fi fântânile.
Optând pentru tipărirea 3D a unor geometrii complexe, folosind materiale poroase, inclusiv ceramică și alte materiale compozite realizate din zaț de cafea și miceliu, umiditatea din mediul înconjurător poate trece prin ele și crea mediul perfect pentru dezvoltarea diferitelor ciuperci.
În prezent, echipa a dezvoltat două produse conceptuale ca rezultat al cercetărilor lor, primul sub forma colectorului de ploaie “Rain Reef”, cu o formă ondulată care mărește suprafața de contact a apei și suprafața potențială de ecloziune pentru vegetație. Al doilea produs este “Zoo Reef”, care este propus ca un substitut pentru fântânile din orașe.
